Each six weeks a bunch of Dave’s friends gets together to talk about books that are not too long, not too hard and somehow always bring us back to the question of religion.

This is the blog of the Group. It is one sibling in a family of very different blogs. The other blogs are 21st Century Solutions and Se Reves.

davesbookgroupThe Group includes Dave, of course, Libby, Leanne, Mark, Sara, Trish, Don, Annie, Karl and Peter. We’ve had a few people come and go but mostly its six to eight of us meeting at each other’s place to share a book, some wine and good food.

The original rules for the book were:

Mostly homes occasionally elsewhere. Host person can use the home of someone else in the group if they prefer. Libby/Leannes or Davids houses will usually be available as emergencies.

FOOD and DRINK – Finger food and BYOG

FREQUENCY – every 6 weeks, Sundays, 2 hours, start between 2.30 and 4

• Preferred – well written, short, decent sized font
• Unwanted – action, romance western, long
• Happy with
– books by Dorothy Porter, Tim Winton, Margaret Atwood
– books made in to movies starring Edward Norton, Johnny Depp or Colin Firth
– travel books, historical novels, occasional non-fiction, short stories
– books short listed for literary prizes

– Usually one book for discussion
– Occasionally theme nights

– Suggestions followed by discussion and a search for consensus
– Hosts job to ensure a decision is clear before the end of the meeting
– Book selected will be for 2 months ahead

Less than $25
Preferably older to provide the opportunity for borrowing from friends or libraries

    So can we add books made into movies with Kate Winslett but not Keira Knightly or the NSW Premier?
